Arthur Magazine knows

In its current issue #31 the indispensible Arthur Magazine has some kind words for our own masterful axeman Matt Baldwin's Paths of Ignition album. The pseudonymous reviewer C declares, "It's like Randy Holden crashing into an ashram where Sandy Bull was having a hip jam session."

The track to which C refers is the album's moster opener, young Matt's take on the Neu! classic "Weissensee." Check it here: Weissenseen (mp3)

UPDATE: The UK's Incendiary mag has joined the public discourse with yet another terrific review for Matt's opus. People are lovin' this album!

Paths of Ignition is available now.

department of eagles live in concert

Wow, we never thought we'd see the day, but our favorite songwriting/studio project Department of Eagles is graduating to live band status. This should be something to see. The group plays the Brooklyn Vegan-presented record release party for their upcoming 4ad album In Ear Park on October 6, at the brand new Bell House venue in Brooklyn, NY. Check the vitals here.

Despite the band's newbie status in the live arena, we ain't worried. Featuring three-fourths of road-tested Brooklyn favorites Grizzly Bear, the group should hit like a freshly tightened snare. That leaves only our good friend Fred as the band's mysterious X-factor. What surprises, Fred? What hidden tricks?

Department of Eagles' debut album The Cold Nose (pictured) is available now.

david omer bearden r.i.p.

American Dust was sad to hear today of the passing on September 4 of poet and musician David Omer Bearden. Best known to music fans as the lover and sometime muse of 70s genius singer-songwriter Judee Sill, Bearden performed on and inspired Judee's tour de force sophomore album, Heart Food. He also wrote the lyrics for one of that album's finest songs, the heartbreakingly lovely "When the Bridegroom Comes." In addition to his work with Judee, Bearden traveled widely as a poet and ran with the likes of Ken Kesey, Neal Cassady and Kirk Douglas. Lucky devil. His presence on this earth will be missed.

In his memory, we offer Judee Sill's classic recording of "When the Bridegroom Comes" for download here. Rest in peace.

awesome vinyl

Wow, have you heard Awesome Color? This band rocks like the Stooges, hits like an air strike and thunders like Odin. As XLR8R mag says, "This upstart trio brings the noise and riffage with aplomb, smashing your face to the glass of your time machine with a smile."

American Dust is pleased to announce the vinyl edition of the band's sophomore release (and Vice Magazine Album of the Month), Electric Aborigines. Pick it up here.

Electric Aborigines saw its initial CD release on the honorable Ecstatic Peace label. Respect.
